Junior Full-Stack Web Developer

About Us

We are Unusual Technologies, a team of creatives and programmers who bring immersive, high-tech, and bespoke solutions to industries ranging from academia and entertainment to the arts. Many of our projects are web-based from the ground up, and those that aren’t (native apps, Unity experiences, etc.) still often need a reliable and secure web backbone with dashboards and tools to support them.

The Role

We’re looking for a junior full-stack developer who can build and maintain web applications. You’ll be working alongside our senior developer, and over time you’ll also pick up infrastructure and DevOps skills (managing servers, networking, and security), but we don’t expect you to know any of that coming in.

What you will be doing:

  • Full-Stack Web Development: Building and maintaining web platforms, dashboards, APIs, and tools.
  • Infrastructure & DevOps (with training): Over time, you’ll learn to manage servers, handle networking, and carry out routine maintenance. We’ll bring you up to speed. We want someone who’s genuinely interested in heading in this direction.
  • Security Awareness: Helping ensure data integrity and secure architecture across our web platforms.
  • Technical Input: Sitting in on creative project meetings (Unity games, AR experiences, etc.) to advise on backend requirements, APIs, and data handling.

The Requirements

Prior infrastructure experience is NOT required.

Essential:

  • You can build full-stack web applications, and you have live projects or a portfolio online to show for it.
  • You’re interested in learning DevOps, infrastructure, and server management. Prior experience isn’t required, but a genuine curiosity is

Desirable:

  • A decent eye for UI/UX
  • Experience with WebGL or data visualisation
  • Unity or other creative tech skills
  • Experience with games, learning experiences or academic projects
  • Experience with Laravel, PHP, Javascript
